Tutorial
1. There are two lights on every keypad, marked ARMED and READY. These lights are useful to determine the current status of your system. The ARMED light illuminates when the system is ARMED. The READY light will illuminate when your system is READY to be ARMED. If you are ready to arm your system and the ready light is not on, press the star (*) button on the keypad. The keypad will then show which ZONE requires attention before the system will be able to be armed. Usually, it is an open door or someone walking in front of a motion detector just before or while you are trying to ARM the system.
2. There are two basic arming levels. The first is AWAY. In the AWAY mode, the entire system is armed (all door contacts, motion detectors, etc. are activated). The AWAY mode is normally used when your home will be vacant. To arm your system in the AWAY mode, from any keypad location flip down the hinged cover exposing the keys and press your four digit code (XXXX) and the number two (2) key, which is also labeled the AWAY key. After doing this, you will hear a series of beeps and the red ARMED light will illuminate. You now have 45 seconds to "exit" before the system fully arms. The beeping you hear serves as a reminder to exit and will continue for the full 45 seconds. This is called an exit delay.
3. The second arming level is called STAY. To arm your system in the STAY mode, from any keypad location flip down the hinged cover exposing the keys and press your four digit code (XXXX) and the number three (3) key, which is also labeled the STAY key. After doing this, you will hear a series of beeps and the red ARMED light will illuminate. In the STAY mode, the motion detectors will be bypassed, or ignored. All other zones will be armed. (HINT: This mode is typically used when you want the peace of mind of having the perimeter doors armed, but without the motion detectors, so that you can move freely within your home... i.e. at night).
4. To DISARM your system, from any keypad location flip down the hinged cover exposing the keys and press your four digit code (XXXX) and the number one (1) KEY, which is also labeled the OFF key. Your system will now be DISARMED. If you have not provided us with a four digit code, you will need to do so as soon as possible. However, the default code is 1-2-3-4. This allows the system to be used with some level of protection until the final setup of your monitoring service is complete
5. Your system is equipped with a built-in CHIME feature. The chime is a stand alone feature and does not affect the use of the alarm system. Its only function (and only when the alarm is disarmed) is to trigger a chime sound via the keypads when a door has been opened. To turn the CHIME on, press your four digit code (XXXX) and the number (9) which is also labeled CHIME. (HINT: This feature is useful for families with small children, and especially if you have a swimming pool. It is also useful to hear someone coming in late at night so that you are not surprised).
6. If you have sump pump, CO Detector, or smoke detectors, we program them so that they are armed 24 hours-a-day. Despite the armed state of your system, any one of these devices can trip an alarm.
7. If glass break detectors are included in your system we program them to react only when your system is armed in STAY or AWAY modes.
8. Please read over your owner's manual. You will find additional features that are not listed here.
